How to Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow AOSP ROM on Sony Xperia Z

The Sony Xperia Z is an android device running on Android 4.4 kitkat out of the box, and can be upgraded to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system via OTA. However, upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now available for Sony Xperia Z via AOSP ROM.

The AOSP Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM, is a custom ROM based on the Android marshmallow, with perfect design, and some other great features. But at this time, the ROM is not stable, as there would be bug fixes in the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Sony Xperia Z.

At this moment, few bugs such as, camera app and incall audio is not working, while video playback, RIL, Bluetooth, Lights, touchscreen, audio, GPS, Wifi, Sensor, SD Mount, NFC and 2D/3D are working perfectly on this ROM. So, you've no issue installing this AOSP ROM on your SonY Xperia Z smartphone.

In this guide, I would brief you guys on the process on how to manually install AOSP Marshmallow ROM on Xperia Z.

Important Notice:
It’s recommended you take nandroid backup of your device current ROM and also take full backup of your data because during the process, the entire files and data in your device will be wiped off. Also know that this process might void the warranty of your device, so implementing the below guide is at your own risk. Guruswizard won’t be held responsible for whatsoever happens to your device.

Before you begin the rooting process, first download Xperia USB drivers on your computer, then enable USB debugging on your Xperia Z smartphone, go to settings >>developers option. If developer’s option isn’t visible on your Xperia device, simply go to about phone under settings and scroll down to build number, then tap build number up to 7 times to make developers option visible.

How to Install Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM on Xperia Z

1.       Firstly, download Marshmallow system.img, userdata.img and boot.img.

2.       After that, download ADB and fastboot driver, and move the downloaded files above to the ADB and fastboot folder.

3.       Now, power off your device and boot to fastboot mode. To boot, simply press and hold volume up and power buttons together for some while.

4.       Now, connect your device to your computer.

5.       After that, go to the ADB folder, and then press shift + right click and select “Open command prompt
6.       Once command prompt windows is opened, input the below commands and press enter for each command you enter.

fastboot flash boot boot.img

fastboot flash system system.img

fastboot flash userdata userdata.img

7.       Now, reboot your Xperia Z device and wait till it boots completely.
