4 Steps to root Huawei Mate S and Install TWRP Recovery

It’s an easy step to root and install CWM or TWRP recovery on Huawei Mate S. However, Huawei Mate S, as a high end smartphone is still required to be rooted for RAM management, as the device is powered with a 3GB RAM. Installation of custom roms would be made possible and easy once TWRP recovery is already installed on the device, and some other easy task and high customization is being made on the device once you’ve passed the process.


Installation of TWRP Recovery on Huawei Mate S is the first stage of the guide, then I would give you guys a brief procedure on how to root any Huawei Mate S.

How to Install TWRP recovery on Huawei Mate S

Before you begin the rooting process, first download HUAWEI USB drivers on your computer, then enable USB debugging on your Huawei Mate S smartphone, go to settings >>developers option. If developer’s option isn’t visible on your Huawei device, simply go to about phone under settings and scroll down to build number, then tap build number up to 7 times to make developers option visible.

1.       First download the TWRP recovery from here.

2.       After that, extract the files from the zipped folder and try to rename recovery.img to Huawei-mate-S.img and move to the ADB folder.

3.       Now, from the extracted files moved to ADB folder, run command prompt under the Huawei-mate-S.img.

4.       Run the following commands:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery Huawei-mate-S.img
NB: the above commands performs a specific function, abd bootloader is to boot your device to bootloader mode, fastboot device is to verify that your device is listed, while fastboot flash recovery is to flash or install TWRP on your Huawei Mate S smartphone.

That’s it. The TWRP recovery image would be installed on your Huawei Mate S smartphone, and you would see the TWRP recovery touch menu, simply select reboot to reboot your device.

How to Root Huawei Mate S

Now that you’ve successfully installed TWRP Recovery option on your Huawei Mate S smartphone, then you can easily root the smartphone, following the procedures below;

Step 1: Firstly, download SuperSU from here on your computer, and move the downloaded files to the internal storage of your Huawei Mate S device.

Step 2: Now, switch off your device and boot to recovery mode (press and hold Volume Down button + press Power button).

Step 3: After that, go to the recover main menu, then choose install, then select the SuperSU file and install immediately.

Step 4: Once the flashing process is completed, simply reboot your device via the recovery main menu.
